Feature Spreads

Image
In the first issue, its main feature includes many photos of the woman on the cover joined with a little text to credit the writer, photographer, and the designer of what she is wearing. Then the following pages talk about the model on the cover and her personal life. They interview her about her family and her success and what she is saying is illustrated by including pictures that surround the text with small captions under them. The feature spread is ten pages long.     Feature spread begins with a number of pages of the girl on the cover with small quotes of things she has said or have been said about her. The photo, writing, and designer credit are included usually at the top or bottom right of each photo. Then there is a page where she talks about her accomplishments and her life. The writing begins with a drop cap and uses serif font.      Begins with images of the girl in the cover with designer clothing. The credits are includ...

Table Of Contents

Image
For the fist magazine (Natalia Vodianova), its table of contents has a big image on the left and on the right side is the table of content with the page number and title of each article. It uses serif font and gives a quick sentence on the page giving photo and writing credits. It is very simple like the cover where they include the main image and not much text. There are  also different categories where the page numbers and their titles lie under and in total there are 2 pages for table of contents.      For the second magazine's table of contents, it starts with an image of the girl featured on the cover on the top left corner and under the picture are the number of pages put under the same catogories as the first, which are Fashion+Features, Who's Next, What's Hot, Beauty, and Departments. The credits of the writer and photographer are presented, also including the details of what the model is wearing on the bottom right corner ...

Target Audience

The magazine I am doing research on is W . This magazine caters to influential luxury consumers, mainly woman from their 20's to 30's. This is seen with not only how the magazine presents itself, but also the ads they feature from skincare products to the newest shoes all directly relating to their target audience, which are woman who care about how they look. The magazine was created in 1972 by the publisher of sister magazine Women's Wear Daily , James Brady. W is an American fashion magazine  that feature numerous different styles and diverse content published by Conde Nast. The editor in chief herself has said,  “If we believe in magazines, we have to change and adapt to the new world. In the new world, magazines have to be a beautiful product that you want to collect. If we call a magazine a luxury product, it should look like a luxury product,”   which  explains why the magazine is positioned as a "luxury" collectible .  The  magazine ...

Covers

Image
The topic of my magazine will be about fashion, so I decided to choose three issues from W  magazine as shown below:   A common theme throughout these three magazines is that the colors are very cohesive with what the person on the cover is wearing. This is seen when looking at how the colors that the artist is wearing matches with either the background or the fonts. They all include the masthead using serif  font at the top left of the magazine and it has different colors depending on the photo used for the cover. All magazines have little to no words as anchorage, but they do include what will the main article be about since they always place the name of the person being portrayed on the cover. The magazines also use mid-shots and usually have a simple bold background as seen in the Rihanna  cover and Rooney Mara, where their clothes are extravagant contrasting with the bare background.   ...
