Covers
The topic of my magazine will be about fashion, so I decided to choose three issues from W magazine as shown below:
A common theme throughout these three magazines is that the colors are very cohesive with what the person on the cover is wearing. This is seen when looking at how the colors that the artist is wearing matches with either the background or the fonts. They all include the masthead using serif font at the top left of the magazine and it has different colors depending on the photo used for the cover. All magazines have little to no words as anchorage, but they do include what will the main article be about since they always place the name of the person being portrayed on the cover. The magazines also use mid-shots and usually have a simple bold background as seen in the Rihanna cover and Rooney Mara, where their clothes are extravagant contrasting with the bare background.
All these components used throughout these three issues are all elements that I want to keep in mind when in the making of my own magazine. For starters, I want to have my masthead featured at the top as well. I also know now that the use of loads of anchorage is not necessary seeing how they got their message across on what the magazine will mainly feature by just including some short sentences or words. Mid-shots used in all magazines are something I think would be useful for my magazine, for I will be able to show both the face and body clearly without getting to close and featuring no clothes or too far for the viewer. Overall, I have a better understanding of how to keep the magazine simple yet interesting enough for the viewer to be drawn in and will try and use some of their techniques in my own magazine.
