Potential Masthead Names


  For my magazine I came up with a long ( veryyy long) list of names that I liked and think sounded nice. Since I am doing a a fashion magazine I want a name that is fun but also sophisticated and elegant. To help me have an idea of what I am going for I wrote a list of names of brands and artists that I like from brand names like Dior and Channel to celebrity names like the one and only Madonna and Lana Del Rey. I then listed the top 12 names that I liked the most to further narrow down my choices.  My magazine is a high class fashion magazine so I want a name that matches that. I decided that after today's planning I will have 4 main title ideas for my magazine. I think I have asked my whole family what name out of the five sound best. Right now the top 4 are Muse, Blaze, Mania, and a symbol I made out of my initials. 

  Each name means something to me or to fashion. To begin with, Muse came to mind do to how I am an artist and the people and clothing showed in my magazine will be my muse  and inspiration for the outcome of the magazine itself. Blaze was a catchy word that means fierce fire and I want my magazine to be, fierce, it also relates to me since I am a Leo ( a fire sign). Mania came out from a search I did on google looking for names that have to do with fashion since that is the topic of my magazine. I really liked the sound of it so I put it on my top 4. AV would be the initials and the symbol would be very simple just having a line in the middle crossing both letters. The idea of  coming up with just two letter would be how W magazine is just one letter at the corner of the magazine making it seem very sleek and I feel like my initials look very parallel making it very satisfying to read. 

UPDATE: Right now at the moment I am leaning towards Muse or the symbol out of my initials, which I will try to put together on Photoshop and see how it looks. For the most part though I THINK MUSE, like it sounds modern and sophisticated and I could see it already, which is why I am so into it and think it matches perfectly since it is also  parallel with 4 letters ( I never wanted a long masthead ) making it pleasing to look at.

Here is my planning for the names, I have highlighted the main names I would use for my top 4 list and wrote some description around some words so those who can not read it well understand what I did.

FINAL PRODUCT: MUSE

FINALLY!!!!! Everything is done and I could not be happier with the results. This process has been a a very long one, but I have learned a lot along the way. I bettered my skill in the editing realm using applications such as, Photoshop, InDesign, and Facetune. I found out what it is like to run a photo shoot and how it is not as glamorous as it seems. Nothing throughout the making of this magazine was easy, but it was all very rewarding to see the final product and watch it all come together as I put each piece together. Table of Contents Plan:

  For my table of contents I feel it will be easier... I hope. When I did my research on W magazine I noticed that their table of contents is usually two pages, so that is what I will be doing. I also will not use much images, due to how table of contents in fashion images usually have 1-4 images. The headlines I will use are going to be similar to the ones W magazine uses ( Fashion + Features, Who"s Next, What's Hot, Beauty, and Departments). What goes under these headlines will be typical things that magazines feature. For instance, " Top 10 accessories" or " "Latest Trends". I plan to include the credits for who took the pictures for each "page" I place on the table of contents. I do not want to make random names or use the same name for each "photographer" so I will use my friends name, since I think they have been so helpful during this process, in the sense that they have helped me narrow down some of my ideas, and I greatly a...

Table of Contents

   I finished my table of contents!!! I honestly thought this would be the easiest, but somehow I managed to take so long trying to make everything look right.I began with laying out the boxes on InDesign of where the photos will be placed and then input my headlines. I then began coming up with more titles to go under the headers other than the ones I already had in mind ( mentioned in my table of contents planning post) . Once I had everything set up I input the pictures and the writing and began just trying to make it proportional and look aesthetic. For the editing in my photos, I did the same process as I did for the images on my feature spread ( Used VSCO to make the images all work together and look cohesive, by adding a filter,changing the brightness, ad grain).
